KUCHING (Oct 30): The newly completed Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) Complex here has officially received its occupational permit (OP) from the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) today.

The OP was handed over by Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng to Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who is minister in charge of Unifor in a simple ceremony at the complex today.

Uggah said the Unifor Complex symbolises the harmony of Sarawak’s people and reflects the unity in religious diversity within the state.

“Unifor represents the manifestation of the policy of inclusivity of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS),” he said during the ceremony, while urging the management of the complex to maintain it properly.

The ceremony marked the long-awaited, historic moment and a major milestone for the complex’s construction project which took over 24 months to complete.

Uggah not only commended MBKS for issuing the OP timely, but also the main contractor and consultants for their immense contributions to make sure that the completion of the complex was within schedule, adding that the complex would be another important landmark of the city.

The Unifor Complex sits on 1.214 hectares of land, featuring various modern amenities, including a two-level meeting room, a banquet hall with a capacity for 1,000 people, commercial spaces, and a rooftop green space with eco-friendly features.

Ensuring that the complex’s functionality and maintenance would be Sarawak Unifor Charitable Trust (SUCT) CEO John Kennedy.
