KOTA KINABALU (Aug 19): Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) deputy president Datuk Yong Wui Chung has pledged to negotiate with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) for the party to field its candidate to contest in the west coast state seats.

He said LDP has 10 divisions in the west coast and all the leaders and members have been working hard to serve the people and build a strong base over the years.

“As the deputy president of LDP, I promise that the party president Datuk Chin Su Phin, secretary general Datuk Chin Shu Ying and I will strive to field our candidate to represent GRS in at least one of the state seats in the west coast.

“Our team is fully prepared. We are confident in achieving victory in the next state election,” he said at the Inanam, Sulaman and Karambunai joint divisional conference cum elections here yesterday.

He also commended the Public Complaints Bureau chief Chin Vun Pheaw and his team for their hard work in resolving livelihood issues faced by the local communities.

He said the team’s proactiveness has helped the party regain significant support from the people.

“I hope the team will continue their good work in serving the people.”

Yong also urged LDP members to stay united in the state election and vote for all GRS candidates.

“GRS is the best choice for Sabahans. Let’s ensure GRS continues to lead Sabah towards progress and prosperity.”

On the other hand, Sulaman division chairman Nicholas Ban said Sulaman, the state constituency of the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, is experiencing rapid developments in recent years, especially in terms of basic infrastructure.

“This shows that the Chief Minister, as the state assemblyman of Sulaman, plays an important role in ensuring developments in his constituency.”

Hence, he urged Sulaman division members, their family and friends to fully support Hajiji and GRS in the upcoming state election.

“We hope that Hajiji will continue to lead the State Government under GRS because the coalition is represented by all local parties.”

Ban said Sabahans must be united because they are the only ones who can change their own fate.

“We no longer want to be the poorest state in Malaysia.

“We must give our full support to the GRS government and allow Hajiji to reclaim Sabah’s rights and interests.”

On the other hand, Karamubunai division chairman Nicholas Voo Vune Kett said Malaysians have witnessed the most challenging political turmoil in the country with the change of three prime ministers in one parliamentary term.

“Such situation has severely hindered the economy and progress of the country.”

He said political stability is important to the development of a nation and region.

As a component party of GRS, he said LDP’s support for the GRS government will be crucial in ensuring political stability.

“We should unite all Sabahans to support GRS because the coalition is made up of local parties.

“Support from the people is important for GRS to become a strong government.

“We want to be as strong as Sarawak because that is the only way to safeguard our rights.

“We only want to reclaim what is rightfully ours in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).”

Meanwhile, Datuk Yong Wui Chung, Nicholas Ban and Nicholas Voo Vune Kett have been elected as the chairman of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Inanam, Sulaman and Karambunai divisions respectively.

The three divisions held a joint conference cum elections on Sunday, where they passed a motion to nominate Datuk Chin Su Phin for the president’s post and Yong for the deputy president’s position in the upcoming party election.

The conference was officiated by the secretary-general Datuk Chin Shu Ying, while the Speaker was Central Multimedia and Information Bureau chief Eric Lau Kah Hon.

Also present were LDP vice president Sim Fui, deputy treasurer general Vincent Chin, and Supreme Council members.
