KUCHING: Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn led a delegation to Seoul Science Centre, South Korea recently.

The trip’s objective was to gain insights into the successful operation of the science centre.

“This visit is a key step in our preparation for the upcoming Sarawak Science Centre, which we anticipate launching in the second quarter of 2026,” the statement said today (Nov 3).

In Seoul, the delegation was greeted by Yoo Man-Seon, the director of Seoul Science Centre, along with other senior officials.

“The team received an extensive briefing about the Centre’s operational strategies, focusing on its exhibits and the demonstration of scientific principles and their real-world applications,” the statement added.

The itinerary also included visits to the National Science Centre in Daejeon and the Gwacheon National Science Museum.

Notably, the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology proposed collaborative opportunities with the Sarawak Bio-Valley Pilot Plant in Miri during a meeting with the Minister.

“The primary goal of this working visit is to explore partnerships in research and development, particularly in pharmaceuticals and biomedical sectors. The delegation has planned meetings with Bukwang Pharmaceutical, Yonsei University Seoul, Seegen Medical Foundation, Asan Medical Centre, and SD Biosensor,” it said.

Accompanying Sagah were his Deputies, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee and Datuk Francis Hardin Hollis, along with State Financial Secretary Datuk Seri Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, and MEITD’s permanent secretary, Datuk Azmi Bujang.

The delegation also comprised Miro Simoh, the Serembu assemblyman; Ts Dr Peter Morin Nissom, General Manager of the Sarawak Research and Development Council; Datuk R. Charlie Yeo, CEO of Sarawak Biodiversity Centre; Dr Ivan Yap, CEO of the Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre; and other senior officials.
