KUCHING, March 26: The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Central Working Committee (CWC) has expelled its Kuching Branch chairperson Datuk Lily Yong and branch secretary Voong Nam Jin, with both given 30 days to appeal the decision.

SUPP Kuching Branch assistant secretary and youth chief Nicholas Wung confirmed the matter during a press conference at the branch office tonight, alongside deputy chairman Jong Yean Pin.

He said the expulsions were carried out as a disciplinary action by the party’s CWC, with effect from March 9, while the official notification letters were issued on March 16.

“Based on the letter, they have 30 days from the date of the letter to appeal to the Central Committee. That would be around April 15 or 16,” he said.

Wung stressed that only Yong and Voong have the locus standi to file an appeal under the party constitution, and the branch itself has no authority to do so.

“As of now, we are not certain whether both of them will appeal. That decision lies solely with them,” he added.

According to the notice, Wung said the expulsions stem from a complaint dated Jan 3, 2025, involving alleged irregularities related to the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) programme.

He added the branch would respect and support whatever decision Yong and Voong make regarding a possible appeal.

Earlier today, local dailies reported that Yong confirmed the matter, stating it was “not rumours, not suspension… it is expulsion from SUPP”.

She also hinted the move was linked to allegations that she or her branch failed to substantiate claims of irregularities in KGC programme, referencing a statement issued on July 3, 2025. SUPP reportedly warned that the statement could undermine the party’s credibility and public trust. — DayakDaily
