Bottles filled with green-coloured liquids suspected to be ‘ketum’ seized in the raid.

MIRI (Dec 13): The police arrested a 49-year-old man and confiscated ketum-related items and processing equipment during a raid on a house in Kampung Pahlawan, Limbang on Friday.

Limbang District Police Chief Supt Parum Niot said the suspect was detained in a 4pm operation.

The seizure included 35 bottles containing approximately 52.5 litres of suspected ketum juice, 25 packets of suspected ground ketum powder weighing about 25kg, and 4kg of ketum leaves.

Also confiscated were items believed to be used for processing the substance – a stainless-steel cooking pot, a gas cylinder and a gas stove

“Initial investigations found that the suspect has no previous criminal record and is believed to have been involved in selling ketum since early this year,” he said in a statement.

A preliminary urine screening test conducted on the suspect returned a negative result.

The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
