KUCHING: The ongoing effort of the Lions Club towards providing professional and affordable elderly care aligns seamlessly with the government’s initiatives, offering crucial support for the seniors in the community.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said the Sarawak Government, through Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), acknowledges the financial strains faced by families caring for bedridden relatives.
“The Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKM) also provides welfare assistance for bedridden patients to ease the burden of low-income families.
“For the information of the public, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) Sarawak provides welfare aid amounting to RM500 per month. With such financial aid, caregivers can buy special milk, adult diapers, medicines, and other necessities,” he said.
He said this in his speech during the Lions Nursing Home Annual Charity Food Fair 2023, at Lions Nursing Home, in Jalan Stutong Baru today (Dec 3).
Yap, representing Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who intended to officiate but was unable to attend, pledged a RM10,000 donation to the Lions Nursing Home.
He also commended the Lions Club for its extensive efforts in supporting diverse communities and their various needs.
“Being a caregiver is incredibly a love-filled journey yet can be difficult when families with an elderly dependant are not prepared for it.
“That’s why our communities are very fortunate that we have Lion Clubs and Lions Nursing Home to assist and support our society and communities with practical solutions in caring for their elderly loved ones,” he added.
Expressing his well-wishes for the Lions Club, Yap lauded their continuous commitment to improving the quality of life for seniors and their families.
Also present were chairman of Lions Nursing Home, past international director Datin Ellis Suriyati Omar and Region 1 chairperson Feliz Hu.
