MIRI (Nov 1): The long-awaited RM116.5 million Marudi Bridge is set for a soft launch and will open to the public on Nov 10.
The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) had been informed by the contractor in mid-October, and final inspections by the relevant authorities have since been completed.
JKR Miri Divisional Engineer Stephen Ng confirmed the development to The Borneo Post when contacted today.
“We have just had a meeting today and details will be announced later,” he said.
Last July, Deputy Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said he expected the bridge would be completed and open to the public by Christmas this year.
He said the opening of the bridge would mark a watershed of a new chapter in economic development and road accessibility for the people of Marudi and beyond in Baram.
The project was scheduled to be completed in Jan 2022. But due to failure to deliver, the contractor was terminated, before rescue contractor Pekerjaan Piasau Konkerit Sdn Bhd (PPK) was appointed to take over.
