KUCHING (Nov 28): The long-delayed Long Napir Health Clinic (Type 6) project, first raised in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) in 2006, was once again highlighted by Batu Danau assemblyman Dato Paulus Palu Gumbang.
Paulus said the project was eventually approved under the Tenth Malaysia Plan (10MP) with an allocation of over RM3 million under the Ministry of Health at the time.
“Construction works commenced upon site possession on Oct 3, 2016, with schedule completion on Jan 2, 2018.
“However, the contractor failed to meet the deadline, leading to termination on June 12 the same year,” he said during the debate on the State Budget 2026 here.
He added that the project was retendered in Feb 2020, but the bids exceeded the ceiling cost of RM7.3 million, leaving the project stalled.
“Since then, there have been no updates. I wish to know its current status,” he said.
Paulus also highlighted electricity projects in his constituency, noting RM46 million has been allocated for various initiatives in 2026, with another RM153 million under alternative funding for the Rural Electrification Scheme (RES).
“The allocation covers the Additional and Late Application Fund (Alaf) as well as the replacement of batteries and key components for the Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (Sares),” he said, urging that works continue for Penan villages such as Long Rayeh, Long Sulong, Kampung Kartadem, Pa Adang, and other Penan settlements in Ulu Limbang.
He also expressed hope that part of the Alaf funding could benefit Batu Danau, citing a long waiting list for electricity connections.
