KUCHING, Apr 24: The Australian woman who was feared to have fallen while descending Mount Santubong was found to be safe on the second day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation today.
In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the victim, identified as Belinda Lapier, was located at 11.59am.
“She was found to be safe and sustained only minor injuries,” said the report.
Earlier, it was reported that the victim had deviated from the trail at the F10 area while descending and became lost on Thursday (Apr 23).
At 5pm, forest rangers successfully contacted the victim and searched for her last known location. However, the team was only able to hear her voice in the F7 area but could not determine her exact position.
A SAR operation was launched, but efforts to reach the victim were hampered by difficult terrain, including numerous rocks and large trees, as well as poor visibility due to nightfall, causing the operation to be suspended before continuing today. — DayakDaily
