KOTA KINABALU (Jan 16): The newly appointed chairman of the Housing and Town Development Board (LPPB), Datuk Awang Ahmad Sah Awang Sahari, has been urged to continue and enhance the board’s vision and mission in advancing housing and township development across Sabah.
State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said the appointment is significant in ensuring continuity of LPPB’s strategic focus and long-term planning.
“The role of the chairman is pivotal in steering the board towards achieving its development objectives, particularly those that have already been outlined and approved at the policy level,” he told reporters after presenting the letter of appointment at the State Ministry of Local Government and Housing office here.
Arifin highlighted two key priorities for the new chairman such as the creation and strengthening of new townships, and the provision of more low-cost housing to meet the needs of low-income groups.
“We need more housing, alongside commercial housing developments to support the growing needs of the community,” he said.
The minister added that Awang Ahmad brings considerable experience in development-related fields, which will be an asset in overseeing ongoing projects, improving existing plans, and making necessary adjustments to ensure LPPB initiatives remain relevant, effective, and people-centric.
