ENGKILILI, May 10: Long-standing clean water supply issues in Lubok Antu continue to affect rural communities, with 386 households still without full access to treated water, prompting renewed focus on upgrading basic infrastructure in the constituency.

Lubok Antu Member of Parliament Roy Angau Gingkoi said the issue remains one of the key challenges inherited by the constituency, as many rural areas are still dependent on untreated river water.

He said this situation has also raised safety concerns, particularly in areas where residents are exposed to crocodile threats while sourcing water from rivers.

“I give my assurance that the issue of clean water supply will continue to be fought for, as 386 houses in the Lubok Antu parliamentary constituency are still not fully connected to water supply,” he was quoted as saying by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) at the Segulai Sejalai Nuju Pemansang Menoa P.203 Lubok Antu Programme at Rumah Beruin, Tabut Skrang today.

Roy added that the Sarawak government continues to place strong emphasis on improving rural basic infrastructure, including expanding treated water coverage to underserved areas.

Apart from water supply, villagers also raised concerns over low-lying rural roads that are frequently affected by floods during heavy rain and high tide conditions, disrupting daily movement.

He said efforts are also being strengthened to improve rural livelihoods through basic marketing training and online business skills to help households increase income opportunities.

As part of continued development support, Roy approved several allocations, including RM200,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), RM20,000 under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) for the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), and RM8,000 for Gerempung Indu. — DayakDaily
