KUCHING, June 25: The federal government has reiterated its decision not to disclose the final report of the Special Cabinet Committee (JKK) reviewing the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), which was presented to the Cabinet in December 2019.
In a TVS news, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said the position remains unchanged unless new instructions are issued by the relevant authorities.
“On July 28, 2020, the former Deputy Minister for Sabah and Sarawak Affairs informed that the government maintained its stance that there is no need to release the final report.
“This is because the contents and recorded discussions are technical in nature, involve sensitive matters, and are classified under the Official Secrets Act 1972,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to a question from Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis @ Fakharudy (Warisan–Kota Belud), who asked whether the government was prepared to make the report public.
Mustapha also said that several MA63-related matters, including petroleum royalties, territorial waters, the financial system, and state rights, are issues that must be decided at the highest level.
“These matters are only discussed at the highest level between the Prime Minister, the Sarawak Premier, and the Sabah Chief Minister.
“Meetings between the three leaders are conducted based on current needs and suitability,” he added. — DayakDaily
