KOTA KINABALU (Feb 25): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Sabah (MACC) has arrested a state civil servant on suspicion of soliciting and accepting a bribe of RM3,000 in connection with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Rumah Mesra project.
Sources said the suspect, in his 40s, was taken into custody at around 12.40pm today when he appeared to give a statement at the Sabah MACC office.
Initial investigations indicate that the alleged offence occurred in 2024, with the suspect purportedly accepting the bribe in stages through two online money transfers — one to his personal account and another to his son’s account.
Sabah MACC Director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah confirmed the arrest, saying the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. He added that the suspect would be released after his statement is recorded.
