KUCHING (Feb 22): The Majma Raya Fest continues its tradition this year as one of Kuching’s signature Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri events, said Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) general manager Datu Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie.

He said the festival has grown into a highly anticipated annual event held in conjunction with Ramadan and the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Carrying the theme ‘Siney Lagik Mun Sik Majma’, the festival began on Thursday and will run until March 20, offering opportunities for both new and established entrepreneurs to showcase and market their products ahead of the festive season.

“It provides valuable exposure to entrepreneurs to promote and market their products. Although competition among traders is intense, the festival continues to receive strong support from both vendors and visitors,” he told reporters during the official launch yesterday.

Shibli noted that the strategic location of Majma Mall, situated near the bustling Kuching market area, makes it an accessible and convenient venue for shoppers.

A total of 138 booths featuring small, medium and established entrepreneurs are participating in this year’s festival.

The event is expected to attract steady crowds throughout Ramadan, with the possibility of ‘last-minute’ promotions on the final day as traders clear stock ahead of Hari Raya.

“Proceeds from the festival will be channeled towards welfare programmes and other charitable efforts, while at the same time benefitting participating entrepreneurs,” he said.

Organised by the Sarawak Islamic Complex, the festival features a food and fashion bazaar as well as a range of community activities, Tarawih prayers, bubur lambuk distribution, colouring contests, cooking and Raya song competitions, fashion shows, busker performances and charity programmes.

Among those present at the launch were Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha, and Dayang Norjihan, the daughter of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and the late Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.
