KOTA KINABALU (April 4): Maktab Nasional school has achieved a historic milestone in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2025 examination, recording its best performance ever with a significant improvement in the School Grade Point Average (GPS), rising from 2.66 in 2024 to 2.26 in 2025.
This remarkable achievement reflects the collective commitment of students, teachers, and parents, marking a proud moment in the school’s academic journey.
A total of 14.3 per cent of candidates obtained straight As, while 8.2 per cent excelled with 9As, demonstrating exceptional academic excellence.
Notably, 55.1 per cent of students achieved between 5As and 9As, and an impressive 98 per cent of candidates secured at least one A in all subjects taken, highlighting the overall strength and consistency of the cohort.
A key highlight of this year’s results is the outstanding mastery of the English language, with a subject grade point of 0.4, reflecting excellent performance.
In alignment with international benchmarks, 71.4 per cent of students achieved at least a C1 level, while 28.6 per cent attained B2 level under the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), reinforcing the school’s strong emphasis on language proficiency.
Among the top achievers, Judd Jensen Sunny Ng, who scored 7A+ and 2A, attributed his success to disciplined study habits and collaboration.
“Plan your study schedule, practise consistently, and engage in discussions with friends,” he advised, expressing gratitude to his teachers, principal, and parents for their unwavering support.
Similarly, Grace Poong Qi Hui, who achieved 7A+ and 1A, emphasised the importance of self-discipline.
“Self-study is essential. I am deeply thankful to my parents, teachers, and principal for their guidance and encouragement,” she shared.
Another high achiever, Edry Bin Azry Hendry Sung, highlighted the value of teamwork and seeking help when needed.
“Study with friends when facing difficulties and always seek guidance from teachers. Continuous support from parents and educators is very important,” he said.
The principal, Marie Yong Pik Hua, described the achievement as a reflection of the school’s enduring philosophy of holistic education.
“The result is a testament to the school’s longstanding emphasis on balanced development in character and intellect,” she said.
“It also reflects the dedication and perseverance of both teachers and students, supported by strong parental involvement.”
She further extended heartfelt appreciation to the Sabah government, the Board of Trustees, the Board of Governors, and parents for their continuous support in enhancing the school’s learning environment.
Special thanks were also conveyed to the Sabah Education Department for its ongoing efforts in strengthening teaching pedagogies.
As the school celebrates this milestone, students are encouraged to remain grounded, continue striving for excellence, and uphold values of discipline, resilience, and gratitude in their future endeavours.
