KUCHING (Oct 1): The Malaysian Armed Forces First Infantry Division and Indonesian National Armed Forces Army Division foiled an attempt to smuggle out controlled grocery items in Lundu yesterday evening.

A First Division Infantry Public Communications Cell spokesperson said the incident occurred at Gabma Biawak Sector near an uncharted road about 200 metres from the Malaysian-Indonesian border.

“At 6pm during a patrol conducted in the area, the team discovered a pile of items covered with a blue canvas left outside a vacant house.

“The items discovered include 170 packets of cooking oil, 120 packets of sugar, and 10 bags of local rice – all items amounted to RM1,201,” he said in a statement.

Further checks found no dangerous or contraband items.

A police report was lodged at Lundu police station and the seized items were handed over to the Lundu Customs Department for further action.
