KUCHING, Apr 27: After seven hours of negotiating, police were finally able to arrest a man for holding his wife and three children captive and threatening to kill them at a plantation workers’ housing area in Kalabakan, Sabah.
According to the News Straits Times, Tawau district police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said information on the incident was received by the police at 8.30pm last Thursday (Apr 23).
“The 39-year-old suspect who went on a rampage was believed to have been under the influence of drugs.
“He locked his wife and three children inside the house and threatened to kill them, as well as anyone who tried to enter, and threw a sickle at individuals who attempted to calm the situation,” he said.
It took the police about seven hours trying to persuade the suspect to surrender before storming the premises to rescue the victims, and the suspect had to be tasered before being arrested.
Police also seized several dangerous weapons at the scene, including a parang, sickles, iron pipes, and screwdrivers.
It was also discovered that the suspect has a prior criminal record under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
The suspect has been remanded, and the case is being investigated under Sections 342 and 506 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act. — DayakDaily
