MUKAH, Sept 20: A 33-year-old man went missing after he was believed to have fallen into a river while working on a barge near Batang Igan Bridge here on Saturday (Sept 19).
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the victim, identified as Saiful Bahri, was reportedly noticed missing by a colleague at about 6.15pm.
The victim’s colleague realised that he had apparently fallen into the river while carrying out work on the barge and immediately alerted the manager at the scene.
Workers at the location subsequently conducted an initial search using a boat around the area where the victim was believed to have fallen.
However, they could not locate the victim despite more than an hour of searching.
The Mukah station was alerted at 7.47pm and arrived at the scene at 8.48pm, about 59km from the station.
Four firefighters were deployed with a Hilux and a boat to conduct search and rescue (SAR) operations.
The operation is a first-day SAR effort, with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) also involved. — DayakDaily
