Marina Bridge to slash Miri–Pulau Melayu travel time

MIRI: Travel between Miri city and Kampung Pulau Melayu is expected to become significantly faster with the RM341.17 million Marina Bridge, which is projected to cut the journey from about 25 minutes to just five minutes upon completion in May 2029.

Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the project would not only improve connectivity but also has the potential to become a new landmark for Miri through its unique cable-stayed bridge design.

He said this after attending a briefing and conducting a working visit to the Marina Bridge construction site here today.

He also said the project, which has a construction period of 36 months, is currently in its early stage after construction works commenced in May 2026.

The bridge will span approximately 650 metres and also involve road works and related facilities.

Aidel said the bridge’s iconic design is expected to add value to Miri’s cityscape and potentially strengthen the tourism sector by providing another new attraction in the city.

“Public safety must be given due attention during the implementation of the project as the construction area would be closed throughout the construction period,” he stressed.

He said the closure was necessary to ensure construction works, including road construction and installation of the bridge structure, could be carried out smoothly and safely.

The Marina Bridge project is among the developments announced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in conjunction with the 2025 Sarawak Day celebration.
