KUCHING (Dec 7): The Sarawak Scout Council has marked steady achievements and strengthened unity for the year, said its president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom.
He attributed these accomplishments to strong collaboration among council members, commissioners and scouters.
“This spirit of esprit de corps must continue to be the cornerstone of our scout movement in Sarawak. Close cooperation and sincere communication are essential for sustaining success,” he said during the council’s annual general meeting (AGM) held at its headquarters off Jalan Batu Lintang on Saturday.
Mawan said scouting activities were implemented “regularly and consistently,” with local newspapers featuring scout events almost every month this year.
“We are proud of this achievement,” he added, noting that the progress reflected the dedication and teamwork of all members.
He said the AGM provided an avenue for them to iron out problems or obstacles that may have hindered progress.
He said it was also a time for members to speak honestly, listen sincerely and make wise decisions for the betterment of the movement.
Applauding the achievements of council members, commissioners and scouters who received Sarawak government awards and various scout honours throughout the year, he urged them to continue their exemplary service.
Mawan also highlighted the progress of the Community-Based Scouting (CBS) initiative, first launched in Serian last year and further emphasised by the National Chief Scout Major General (Rtd) Prof Datuk Mohd Zin Bidin in Air Keroh, Malacca on Nov 9.
With Sarawak now actively pushing for CBS development, he called on all leaders to take this initiative seriously and establish new CBS troops next year.
He disclosed that preparations are underway for a significant ceremony in Bintulu next month, spearheaded by vice president Jumaat Ibrahim.
Mawan urged council members and commissioners to attend and contribute to the success of the programme, adding: “Your presence will signal our unity and commitment as a movement.”
He encouraged all members to play their role in refining ideas and charting better strategies for the future of scouting in Sarawak.
“Let us continue to build a movement that is strong, relevant and impactful for generations to come,” he said.
This AGM was the first meeting of the 2025-2027 term of office of the Sarawak Scout Council. Both the council and the uniformed sections of the movement presented their annual programmes and activities for consideration.
It also saw the launch of the Sarawak Scout Eco-Run 5.0 scheduled to take place in June next year.
