ADVERTISE HERE

KUCHING (March 8): Two out of the 32 samples collected in and around the city between March 2 and 6 tested positive for rabies, said Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
The Kuching South Mayor said one of the positive cases involved a pet dog from Taman Mimpi, Jalan Stapok here, which had been allowed to roam freely.
“The other case was from Kampung Mundai, Jalan Padawan,” he said during his Facebook live session ‘Shall WEE Talk’ on Saturday.
Wee appealed to the community to remain vigilant and cooperate closely with the authorities in the fight against rabies.
He urged the public to report strays or pets that behave abnormally.
“For instance, if an animal starts exhibiting aggressive behaviour, report immediately to the city council for swift action,” he said.
He also reminded parents or guardians to prevent children from coming into close contact with dogs, particularly non-pets.
According to him, many children are curious and may want to touch dogs when they see them.
“Even if a dog is well kept at home, a stranger’s touch may cause the pet to feel shocked and subsequently attack others,” he explained.
Given this, Wee urged parents and guardians attending gatherings at relatives’ or friends’ places to safeguard their children from pet dogs.
This, he added, helps reduce the likelihood of dog bites.
He reiterated his call to the public to remain vigilant in their fight against rabies.
“Should there be any suspicious case, do not hesitate to report to the authorities. Together, we can curb the spread of rabies.”
