KUCHING (March 6): Repair works on a damaged concrete drainage system at Lorong Chawan 3 here have begun following the official handover of the project site to the appointed contractor by Kuching South mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
Wee said the project involves the repair and reconstruction of sections of an existing concrete drain stretching about 300 metres along the road.
“The project is scheduled for completion within four months and will include improvements to water flow as well as related civil works to strengthen the overall drainage system in the area,” he said in a statement.
He said upgrading drainage infrastructure is important to reduce water overflow and minimise the risk of flash flooding, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
“This project reflects Kuching South City Council’s (MBKS) continuous efforts to improve basic infrastructure while addressing the concerns raised by residents.
“Proper drainage is important to ensure safety, smooth traffic movement, and the overall well-being of the community,” he said.
He advised residents in the area that temporary inconvenience may occur during the four-month construction period.
The mayor said MBKS will closely monitor the progress of the works to ensure they are completed on schedule and in accordance with the required standards.
“We remain committed to delivering practical infrastructure improvements that enhance the quality of life for the people,” he added.
Also present during the site handover were MBKS deputy city secretary Taufiq Abdullah, Councillor Albert Tay, and Penghulu Tan Heng Kee.
