KUCHING, May 22: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) continues to place strong emphasis on the welfare, safety, and health of its workforce through the organisation of a Health Screening Programme for staff held today at the MBKS Lobby.
Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the programme reflects MBKS’s ongoing commitment to building a healthy, safe, and productive working environment for all employees.
He said a healthy workforce is essential in ensuring efficient public service delivery and maintaining the quality of services provided to the community.
“MBKS staff are the backbone of the council. Their health, safety, and well-being are always among our top priorities. Good health starts from our staff in MBKS. When our staff are healthy, they can serve the public better, and this health awareness culture will also be extended to the community in the future,” he said in statement.
The health screening programme was conducted free of charge for MBKS staff in collaboration with Borneo Medical Centre. It included Body Mass Index (BMI) checks, blood pressure measurements, as well as glucose and cholesterol screening.
In addition, more than 100 selected staff members whose work involves exposure to chemicals, infectious diseases, environmental hazards, and other occupational risks underwent more detailed blood screening tests as part of the initiative.
Wee said the programme is also aligned with MBKS’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) commitment to ensuring employees work in a safe and healthy environment, particularly those involved in field operations and high-risk duties.
He expressed appreciation to Borneo Medical Centre for its continued support in promoting workplace health awareness and collaborating with MBKS on the initiative.
“MBKS highly appreciates the cooperation and contribution from Borneo Medical Centre. Public health and workplace wellness require continuous collaboration between organisations and healthcare institutions,” he added.
The programme saw encouraging participation from staff across various divisions and units within MBKS, reflecting strong awareness and support for workplace health initiatives. — DayakDaily
