KUCHING (Nov 19): Over 140 submissions have been received for the poster design competition organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) in conjunction of the World Children’s Day.

A total of 27 primary schools located in MBKS’ area participated in the competition that was held from Nov 6 until 16.

The competition was divided into category 1 for those aged between seven and nine, and category 2 for those aged between 10 and 12.

A prize giving ceremony was held at MBKS headquarters lobby today, graced by Kuching South Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

In his speech, Wee said the theme for the competition was ‘What are Child Rights – In Respect of Children’s Views’ as part of an effort to champion for the wellbeing of children.

“The submissions we received were not merely artistic expressions. They were powerful declarations reflecting the dreams, aspirations and desires of our future leaders,” he added.

The champions of both categories received a cash prize of RM250 each, while the first runner-ups and second runner-ups received RM200 and RM150 respectively. The top three winners of both categories also received a trophy and a certificate each.

There were 25 consolation prizes for each category with each recipient receiving RM30, as well as a trophy and a certificate.

Category 1 was won by Emmy Liew En Yu from SJK Stampin, while Caren Chong Xiao Xuan from SJK Bintawa was the first runner-up, and the second runner-up was Lim Zhen Xian from SJK Chung Hua No 3.
