KOTA KINABALU (Nov 30): The Malaysia–China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah has extended its warm congratulations to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor on his reappointment.

MCCC Sabah president Datuk Dexter Lau described it as a reaffirmation of his leadership as Sabah pursues stability, pragmatic governance and long-term development.

He said Hajiji has earned the confidence of the public and business community through steady leadership, an open economic vision and practical governance.

Hajiji’s reappointment as Chief Minister reflects strong public trust while boosting confidence in Sabah’s economic planning, industrial upgrading and overall investment climate, he added.

“During his tenure, Chief Minister Hajiji has implemented key reforms, including enhancing the state’s fiscal autonomy, strengthening coordination with the federal government, advancing negotiations on oil and gas revenue sharing, accelerating infrastructure upgrades, expanding digitalisation, and promoting industrial diversification across agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, logistics, food processing, and renewable energy.

“These policies have progressively shaped Sabah into a more resilient and open economic ecosystem,” Lau said.

He said Hajiji has, over the years, championed Sabah’s economic transformation by expanding investment channels, strengthening inter-state and international cooperation, and improving the business environment — allowing the state to regain economic momentum quickly in the post-pandemic period.

“His reappointment is a stabilising factor for the business sector and opens a new window of opportunity for future development,” Lau said.

MCCC Sabah also urged Hajiji to appoint a capable and professional team — including the new state cabinet and key officers — to build a more efficient administrative structure.

“A strong and competent team will be crucial in policy execution, investment facilitation, industrial development, and social governance, leading Sabah toward another era of progress,” Lau said.

He noted that Sabah has seen a steady rise in domestic and foreign investments in recent years, including in industrial parks, cross-border logistics, green economy initiatives, renewable energy projects, downstream oil and gas industries and modern agricultural technologies — all aligned with the Chief Minister’s strategic economic vision.

A stable administration, he said, will further strengthen investor confidence, especially for long-term projects.

“MCCC Sabah will continue to fully support the state government’s economic direction and looks forward to collaborating closely with the Chief Minister’s leadership team in investment promotion, trade facilitation, cross-border industrial linkages, talent development, and SME growth jointly building a more competitive economic ecosystem for Sabah,” Lau said.

Lau also highlighted Sabah’s natural advantages as Malaysia’s gateway to China and Asean, including maritime connectivity, natural resources, food security, palm oil supply chains, seafood exports and cultural tourism.

“With Malaysia–China relations deepening, Sabah is poised to become an indispensable strategic node in regional cooperation,” he said.

He added that rapid growth in business and tourism exchanges between Sabah and China further strengthens the state’s prospects to develop into a “Malaysia–China–Asean Strategic Hub”.

“A stable and high-performing administrative team is essential to achieving this vision. Chief Minister Hajiji’s continued leadership provides the foundation for clear direction and unified momentum across government and industry,” he said.

He concluded that the business community looks forward to working closely with the state government to enhance Sabah’s competitiveness and global relevance.
