KUCHING, Mar 22: While the back-to-back Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations enhance the festive spirit in Sarawak, it also reflects the State’s unity in embracing the diverse traditions of its multiracial and multi-religious society.

In a Facebook post, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said this in conjunction with several Hari Raya Aidilfitri open houses he attended—expressing his appreciation for the chance to strengthen relationships and share in the joy of the festive season.

“We live in a multi-racial and multicultural society, where each community has its own celebrations and traditions. This diversity makes our country richer and more beautiful. This year, the close proximity of the Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations has further extended the festive atmosphere.

“Through the tradition of visiting one another and exchanging festive greetings, we can see the harmony that exists regardless of background, with everyone showing mutual respect and appreciation. This is one of the most beautiful reflections of Sarawak,” he said.

Tiong, who is also the assemblyman for Dudong and MP for Bintulu, sang praises of the traditional yet much-loved delicacies served during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, such as ketupat, rendang, and ‘kek lapis’ (layered cake), which reflect the sincerity of the host.

“On this occasion, I would like to wish everyone Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri. May you always be blessed with happiness, good health, and a life filled with peace and well-being, together with your loved ones. Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir dan Batin!” — DayakDaily
