KUCHING, May 15: Minister of Higher Education Zambry Abd Kadir has clarified that the national education policy remains unchanged, with the main requirement for entry into public institutions of higher learning (IPTAs) still based on the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) qualification.

According to Bernama, he made this comment regarding the federal government’s decision on admission pathways for students from outside the national education system to public universities, which he said has been politicised.

“Yesterday (May 14), when the government decided to open up access, it was not about granting recognition (to other systems). We will not change, we will not recognise other systems.

“Whichever stream you are from, whether an international school, SMPC (independent Chinese school), religious school or any institution not following the national curriculum, you must follow our system,” he said during an event at Putrajaya today.

On Thursday (May 14), the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) released a statement saying that the federal government has agreed upon several decisions regarding entry pathways for students from outside the national education system—such as tahfiz, private schools, and Chinese independent secondary schools—into public universities. — DayakDaily
