KUCHING, Jan 8: The Ministry of Digital will hold a meeting with all state governments to gather feedback on the development of the digital sector in their respective states, ensuring that there are no gaps in adapting to the digital direction that will be introduced later.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo clarified that the purpose of the meeting was to ensure that the existing digital sector in all states is in line with the ministry’s upcoming direction, set to be announced in May, as reported by Bernama today.

“I made a decision at the Digital Ministry to visit each state to get perspectives and aspirations regarding the direction of the digitisation process in each state, then bring it to the ministry level.

“We hope that within three or four months, we can make an announcement about the direction for the Digital Ministry that is in line with what we see as the direction in each state,” he was quoted as saying after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

As the minister in charge of steering the new ministry, Gobind emphasised that close collaboration and views between the federal and state government levels are essential for kicking off the digital transformation process.

“I found that most states have actually started the digitisation process and have their own state direction. We want to move the national agenda, and this (meeting) saves time because the work has already started (at the state level), so we just continue from there,” he added.

The news outlet also reported that early during the courtesy call session, Gobind and the Premier exchanged views on Sarawak’s goals and challenges in facing the digital world in line with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 developed by the State government. — DayakDaily
