MIRI (Feb 7): Police here have intensified enforcement against property-related crimes following the arrest of two suspects in separate theft cases.

On Feb 5, police from Batu Niah arrested a 40-year-old local man in connection with the theft of 23 oil palm fruit bunches, valued at about RM200, from a plantation in Niah.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code. All the stolen fruit bunches were recovered from the vehicle used by the suspect.

In a separate incident, police arrested a 41-year-old local woman on Friday for allegedly stealing a pressure cleaner worth RM250 from a local supermarket.

The offence, which occurred on Feb 2, is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

The stolen item was later recovered from the suspect’s residence.

Miri police have advised the public to remain vigilant and strengthen security measures, particularly at plantations and commercial premises.

Plantation operators were urged to enhance monitoring and ensure guard posts are effectively manned, while shop owners were encouraged to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police.
