MIRI (Jan 9): Top Speed Aquatic Swimming Club began the new year on a high after clinching an impressive 93 medals at the 52nd Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championships 2026 held on Jan 2-4.
The club hauled in 29 gold, 30 silver, and 34 bronze medals, with swimmers excelling across boys’ and girls’ individual events and several athletes earning Best Swimmer awards in their respective age groups.
In the girls’ category, Carissa Chong dominated the 9 Years and Under group with five gold, two silver, and one bronze to emerge as Best Girl Swimmer.
Yuen En Chee was equally outstanding in the 12–13 Years category, collecting seven gold and three silver medals to secure the Best Girl Swimmer title.
Liysha Liung Chen continued the strong showing for the girls’ team by winning six gold and one silver in the 14–15 Years category, also earning Best Girl Swimmer honours.
Other notable contributors on the girls’ side were Celine Tiong (two gold, one silver), Yuen Zi En (two gold, two silver, two bronze), Claire Lau (one gold, three silver, one bronze), Jamelle Tu Shao Han (one gold), Rachel Sim (five silver, five bronze), Raelyn Sim (three silver, four bronze), Antania Chan (one silver, two bronze), Camila Chong (five bronze), Charissa Chew (one bronze), and Yii Jia Qi (one bronze).
The boys’ team also delivered commendable performances, led by Bong Rui Jie (two gold, one silver, one bronze) and Ethan Yii (three gold, two silver, one bronze).
They were supported by Evert Soh (two silver, one bronze), Nathan Sim (one silver, one bronze), Henry Voon (one silver, two bronze), Louis Tie (one silver), Gareth Yii (one silver, three bronze), Chin Teng Yun (two bronze), and Cayden Chong (one bronze).
A major highlight for the club was the qualification of 13 swimmers for the Malaysian Invitational Age Group Swimming Championship scheduled to be held on Feb 5-8.
This will be the largest contingent sent by Top Speed Aquatic to a national-level meet, marking a new milestone for the club.
Club advisor and coach David Chung expressed appreciation to Gymkhana Club Miri for providing pool facilities for regular training, as well as to the Miri Amateur Swimming Association for selecting 37 swimmers to compete in the championship.
He also thanked parents and supporters for their continued trust and encouragement, saying their unwavering support has motivated the swimmers to keep pushing beyond their limits as the club strives for greater success at higher-level competitions.
