MIRI (March 7): The Miri Thai Poo Community Association has expressed its heartfelt appreciation to the community for their strong support of its Golden Dragon Team, following the successful completion of 42 performances during the recent Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations.
The association’s Youth chief Chia Kah Furng said the overwhelming support from the public had provided team members with valuable experience and strengthened the association’s efforts to promote traditional culture while contributing to its educational initiatives.
According to Chia, the team maintained a busy schedule throughout the festive season, performing at temples, associations, business premises, residential areas and various events across the city.
“At every venue we visited, the team received enthusiastic support from the public,” he said in a statement.
This encouragement has motivated the members to continue upholding and promoting Chinese cultural heritage, he added.
Despite challenges such as the hot weather and the demanding schedule of performing multiple times in a single day, Chia said team members remained committed and demonstrated strong discipline and teamwork throughout the festive period.
He added that funds raised from the performances would be channelled towards the association’s educational initiatives under the Thai Poo Education Fund, as well as facilities upgrade at the Thai Poo Miri Kindergarten.
Chia also noted that the dragon dance is not only an important symbol of Chinese traditional culture but also represents cooperation and coordination, with every successful performance reflecting the members’ dedication, continuous training and strong support of the community.
“Looking ahead, we hope our dragon dance team will continue to strengthen its training programmes and encourage more young people to join, so that this traditional art can continue to flourish while bringing positive impact to the local community,” he said.
