PUTRAJAYA (April 10): A total of 300 MySTEP Hostel Assistant Wardens (MyPWA) have been appointed effective April 1 and will be deployed across boarding schools nationwide, the Ministry of Education (MoE) announced.
In a statement, the MoE said the initiative, introduced as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen safety in residential school environments, also aims to ease the workload of teachers who currently shoulder multiple responsibilities beyond the classroom.
“Under the programme, MyPWA personnel will assist hostel wardens, particularly in supervising students during nighttime hours.
“Their role focuses on ensuring the safety, welfare, and overall well-being of boarding students are consistently maintained at a high standard,” it said.
The ministry added that the implementation of the MyPWA will be progressively expanded as part of a broader push to enhance safety reforms across all educational institutions under its purview.
The move is also aligned with the Malaysia Education Plan 2026-2035, which emphasises the need for subject teachers to concentrate on core teaching and learning activities, while support personnel take on auxiliary responsibilities within school operations.
