KUCHING (Nov 2): The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has undertaken 101 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects this year, said its chairman Tan Kai.

He said of these, 95 RTP projects across eight state constituencies were valued at RM13,376,669 while six RTP projects in two parliamentary constituencies totalled RM950,000.

“I urge more infrastructure development to be carried out, as we are aware that there are increasing requests from local residents over time.

“We have seen many RTP projects completed in recent years that have benefited various levels of society,” he said during MPP’s 28th anniversary dinner at a hotel here last night.

Tan Kai also emphasised that rectification on their part is essential in addressing any shortcomings in MPP’s project delivery caused by contractors they employed, following a recent incident involving substandard flooring at a wet market under MPP’s jurisdiction.

“As a responsible government agency, any mistakes made must be corrected, and we need to ensure they will not happen in future.

“MPP will learn from this experience and acknowledge the mistake made. There is no need for debate, but one thing I can assure you is that no payment will be made until the quality of work is satisfactory,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, he announced MPP had been honoured with three prestigious awards, placing third in the nation-wide Municipality Category for the Local Authority Star Rating Award in conjunction with the Local Authority Convention (PBT) 2024.

Other accolades include the Smart City Early Adopter Award and the Most Sustainable City Award 2024, with MPP being one of the twelve local councils in Malaysia to receive the Most Sustainable City Award 2024.

“These awards affirm our position as a leader in municipal services and inspire us to continue pushing boundaries, raising standards, and delivering unparalleled value to those we serve.

“We are grateful for these recognitions, and they motivate us to reach even greater heights together,” he remarked.
