ADVERTISE HERE
SIBU: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu Branch is planning to establish a new branch in Sibu Jaya soon.
Its chairman Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee said Sibu Jaya’s expanding population and businesses make it a prime location for the establishment of a new branch.
“Sibu Jaya is developing quickly, its population is increasing, and businesses are expanding here. This town is a promising area where we can set up a new MRCS branch soon,” he said when met by reporters at the MRCS flag sale event at Pasar Tamu Sibu Jaya today (Sept 15).
He added that MRCS needs to work with the local community and hopes to provide first aid courses and ambulance services.
“I think it is very important because we have primary and secondary schools in this town. We have many people from Sibu Jaya who are very interested in assisting with what we call charitable efforts here,” he said.
Regarding the flag sale, Chua said that it was the first time the MRCS Sibu Branch was conducting a fundraising activity there.
“This is because we want to introduce MRCS to the residents of Sibu Jaya and explain why we (MRCS) want to come here. That is our main goal, our vision for coming here,” he said.
Meanwhile, Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Sibu Jaya chairman Councillor Paul Teo hopes that MRCS will receive strong support from the people of Sibu Jaya.
“We know MRCS performs the noble duty of emergency assistance. So, directly or indirectly (if we contribute to them), we will also benefit.
“Even if not directly, the assistance may be channelled to those around us,” he added.
