KUCHING (Feb 10): The Malaysia Sustainable Green Energy Association (MSGEA) has engaged the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) Sarawak to explore potential collaboration aimed at advancing green energy investment and sustainable development through global partnerships.
In a statement on Tuesday, MSGEA said the courtesy visit provided a platform to share the association’s vision and strategic direction in promoting renewable energy, green technology, and sustainable business models through public–private partnerships (PPP).
“Discussions focused on positioning Malaysia, particularly Sarawak, as an attractive destination for green energy investments, aligned with national development priorities and international climate commitments,” it said.
Furthermore, MSGEA also briefed MIDA on its recent international engagements, including strategic partnerships with global institutions and industry players from China and the wider region.
MSGEA said these partners have expressed interest in exploring opportunities within Malaysia’s green energy ecosystem covering areas such as renewable energy generation, energy storage solutions, sustainable manufacturing, carbon management, green mobility, and circular economy initiatives.
The association said the engagement reflects its commitment to supporting Malaysia’s transition towards a low-carbon economy by working closely with key government agencies responsible for investment facilitation, industrial development, and sustainable growth.
MSGEA also highlighted its role as a facilitation platform linking international partners, local industry players, and government agencies, while supporting knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and project development.
It stressed that close collaboration with MIDA is essential to ensure potential investments align with Malaysia’s regulatory framework, industrial policies, and sustainability objectives.
The discussion also emphasised the need to align green energy investments with long-term development strategies, including Malaysia’s clean energy ambitions and Sarawak’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which prioritises sustainable economic growth, innovation, and environmental stewardship.
MSGEA president Dr Ting Sie Chun said the visit marked an important step in strengthening institutional cooperation to attract quality green investments into Malaysia, particularly in Sarawak.
“MIDA plays a pivotal role in shaping Malaysia’s investment landscape. Through closer collaboration, MSGEA aims to support MIDA in facilitating credible green energy investments that deliver long-term economic value, environmental benefits, and technology advancement for the country,” he said.
Both MSGEA and MIDA expressed mutual interest in maintaining engagement to identify strategic focus areas, facilitate investor matching, and support initiatives that can accelerate Malaysia’s green energy transition while enhancing the country’s competitiveness as a sustainable investment destination.
