KUCHING, April 1: Several areas in Kuching have been experiencing water supply disruptions since Tuesday (March 31), with residents facing low water pressure or no water at all due to ongoing pipe repair and installation works.
Today (April 1), consumers along Jalan Mendu and La Promenade in Kota Samarahan are expected to be affected as repair and main connection works continue.
Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd (Southern Region) issued an unscheduled water supply interruption notice for Jalan Mendu, where repair work on a 150mm SI pipe will take place from 11am to 4pm. Affected areas include Jalan Mendu, Jalan Batu Lintang, and nearby locations.
Meanwhile, a scheduled water supply interruption will occur along La Promenade, Hock Seng Lee headquarters, to facilitate the main connection of a 600mm DI pipe as part of the Kuching-Samarahan expressway KUTS pipe relocation project. The works are expected to run from 10am to 4pm, with surrounding areas likely to experience low pressure or no water supply.
The disruptions follow multiple incidents on March 31, including:
- Jalan Penrissen to Jalan Amar Kalong Ningkan (in front of Everise) and Jalan Kung Phin, due to repair of a 400mm main leak at Jalan Penrissen near the 4th Mile flyover.
- Lorong Sunny Hill and D’ Ryx Residence, from repair of a 150mm DI main leak off Jalan Batu Kawa.
- Lorong Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce and surrounding areas, caused by a 6-inch AC main burst.
- Taman Anib and Lorong Cenderawasih, due to repair of a 150mm DI main leak.
- Kampung Baru in Kota Samarahan, where a new 200mm HDPE pipe was connected to an existing 200mm DI line.
Sarawak Water confirmed that water tanker services will be mobilised if required and urged road users to exercise caution and follow traffic management measures near the works.
The utility provider also apologised for the inconvenience and thanked residents for their patience.
