SANDAKAN (March 18): Upholding its corporate social responsibility and commitment to giving back to the community, Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad (Mydin), in collaboration with Sinar Harian, successfully organised the ‘Jelajah Iftar Sinar Mydin 2026’ event at an open space beside Mydin Sejati Ujana, Sandakan on Monday.
The event brought together members of the community to share the warmth and joy of breaking fast during the holy month of Ramadan. This also marked Mydin’s first-ever Ramadan iftar roadshow held in Sabah, making the occasion particularly meaningful.
The ‘Jelajah Iftar Sinar Mydin 2026’ is a nationwide community initiative held at nine Mydin branches across Malaysia, including Subang Jaya (Selangor), Mutiara Rini (Johor), Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC), Seremban 2 (Negeri Sembilan), Bukit Mertajam (Penang), Meru Raya in Ipoh (Perak), Tunjong (Kelantan), Jengka (Pahang), and Sejati Ujana in Sandakan, Sabah.
The programme attracted more than 10,000 participants nationwide, with approximately 1,000 people gathering at the Sandakan stop alone to take part in the meaningful iftar gathering.
Organisers stated that the initiative not only provided a warm iftar meal for community members but also reflected Mydin and its partners’ long-standing efforts to stay close to the community and promote shared wellbeing.
Through collaboration between corporate entities and the media, the programme also helped strengthen ties between businesses and the public while spreading care and compassion within society.

Notably, the Sandakan event was graced by the presence of Senator Datuk Annabel Perian, whose attendance added further significance to the occasion.
Senior Mydin representatives were also present to welcome her, including HQ Marketing Communications manager Gurubaran, East Malaysia regional manager Zulkefli Yunus and Sandakan Branch manager Sarip Sappalando, who joined the senator and attendees in commemorating the meaningful event.
During the programme, Mydin also presented cash vouchers worth RM1,000 to Sekolah Pondok Miftaahusalam Sandakan.
The handover ceremony was officiated by Annabel alongside Mydin’s senior management, symbolising the company’s support for educational and religious institutions while extending care and blessings during Ramadan.
As widely known, Mydin is one of Malaysia’s prominent homegrown retail brands. Established in 1957 — the same year Malaysia gained independence — by founder Mydin Mohamed, the company began as a small shop in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
Today, with its headquarters in Subang Jaya, Selangor, the group has grown into a nationwide retail chain with approximately 71 branches across Malaysia, encompassing hypermarkets, shopping centres, and supermarkets, making it a significant force in the country’s business landscape.
Over the years, Mydin has remained committed to offering affordable, quality products to consumers while actively supporting social initiatives.
These include participation in the Madani government’s Menu Rahmah affordable meal programme, sponsorship of community and educational activities, organising charitable iftar events during Ramadan and supporting local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in entering the retail market.
Through its continued efforts in social responsibility and economic development, Mydin is widely regarded as a leading example of a business that balances commercial success with social responsibility.
