KUCHING, Jan 31: Political pundit Dato Peter Minos has opined that Peninsular Malaysians should first do their ‘house-cleaning’ and then reassess their attitude and relationship with Sarawak.

In a statement, Minos was referring to remarks made by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, which suggested that the endless quarrels and bickering in Peninsular Malaysia have become so pervasive that perhaps Sarawak and the rest of the country were “never meant to be one nation”.

He said that Nanta ‘spoke the truth’ about what is happening in Malaya and how Sarawakians feel about the situation,

“We in Sarawak are deeply worried and concerned about the seemingly endless bickering in Malaya over racial, religious, language and many other issues. These quarrels give the impression that many things are seriously wrong there.

“Because of the social chaos in Malaya, we in Sarawak feel the aftereffects. There are some people in Malaya who said that if Sarawakians are not happy with Malaysia, we can leave. That Sarawak is too greedy by asking too much from PETRONAS. That we are trying to destroy the oil giant. That we are working on severance from Malaysia.

“Those statements make Sarawakians unhappy because we all love Malaysia, as shown by our words and actions that reflect that we are loyal and true to Malaysia,” he said.

He also commented on Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Law and Institutional Reform Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said’s remarks that federalism remains the guiding principle in Malaysia’s petroleum governance, adding that Sarawakians were not pleased with sucha statement and would challenge it.

Minos further added that Peninsular Malaysians should first put their own house in order and then reassess their attitude and relationship with Sarawak.

“There is nothing wrong with Sarawak, which remains peaceful, united, and fair in its dealings. It is Malaya that must resolve its internal problems and be fair, reasonable and just towards Sarawak in both words and actions,” he said. — DayakDaily
