LIMBANG (Feb 14): The collection, processing and packaging centre (CPPC), a facility aimed at helping farmers here market their agricultural produce, is expected to begin operations this year.

According to State Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, the operator is currently procuring equipment to process crops supplied by local farmers before sending them to processing centres for market distribution.

Valued at approximately RM5 million, the Limbang CPPC will focus on crops regionally grown produce, including honey jackfruit, chillies, durian and pineapple.

“The CPPC is now completed, and the operator is purchasing machinery. It is expected to be operational this year.

“We will also work with the Agriculture Department to develop farmers and participants to supply raw produce,” said the Bukit Kota assemblyman during a working visit to the Kubong Permanent Food Production Park (TKPM) here on Thursday.

Also present was Limbang Agriculture officer Amirul Fikri Jemali.

Adding on, Dr Abdul Rahman said the Lawas CPPPC was currently undergoing upgrades, with operations expected to kick off next year.

He noted that aside from the Limbang CPPC, TKPM Kubong had also been focusing on producing fruits and fertigated vegetables for the local market.

Implemented under the federal government in 2020, the TKPM spans 27 hectares and is expected to be completed next year.

On funding, Dr Abdul Rahman said Sarawak’s 2026 Budget had allocated RM326 million to strengthen the state’s agricultural sector, while the federal government has set aside RM158 million for Sarawak’s agriculture this year.
