BAU (March 11): The construction of a new immigration post and quarters in Serikin is scheduled for completion on Dec 9, 2027.

According to a Facebook post by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak), the project commenced on Dec 10, 2025 and is aimed at strengthening border security while improving the welfare and working conditions of immigration personnel stationed in the area.

“The project will provide more comfortable and systematic operational facilities for immigration officers, while enhancing the efficiency of border monitoring,” JKR Sarawak said.

The scope of works includes the construction of a surau, a canteen with toilets, four Class G quarters units, as well as two guard huts and other related works.

JKR Sarawak, said the improved facilities will enable immigration personnel to carry out their duties more effectively while monitoring cross-border movements in a more systematic manner.

“The project is also expected to benefit the local community by supporting border economic activities and ensuring a safer environment for residents and visitors in the area,” it added.

Serikin, located in Bau district along the Sarawak–Indonesia border, is a well-known cross-border gateway linking Sarawak with Jagoi Babang in West Kalimantan. The area has long served as a key point for trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges between the two neighbouring regions.

Previous reports have noted that the development of border infrastructure in Serikin is part of broader efforts to improve security and facilitate cross-border movement, including plans for an Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) complex at the border.

The improved facilities under the new project are expected to support ongoing efforts to strengthen border management while preparing for increased cross-border movement and economic activities in the future.

On Feb 2, Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Henry Harry Jinep was cited as saying that once the Serikin ICQS Complex is completed, the Bau area is expected to become an increasingly important hub for trade, tourism, and investment.
