KUCHING, May 18: A new secondary school project in Bukit Goram, Kapit, is expected to provide a more comfortable and conducive learning environment for students in the rural area while strengthening access to quality education in the interior of Sarawak.
In a Facebook post, Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi attended a briefing session and inspected the site for the construction of the new Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Goram.
He said that the project, which is on a site measuring approximately 7.189 hectares, involves the construction of a new secondary school comprising 36 classrooms along with standard facilities, including an administration block, academic block, secondary Special Education Integration Programme (PPKI), canteen, school hall, surau, vehicle waiting area, covered walkways, and other supporting facilities and will be implemented through the Design and Build method.
“As the member of Parliament for Kapit, I personally see how important it is for this project to be closely monitored.
“Every stage of planning, implementation schedule and coordination between agencies must run smoothly to ensure that educational institutions in rural areas can stand on equal footing with schools in urban areas,” he said.
Nanta, who is also the Works Minister, said that he was informed that the project is part of the implementation of education projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) through an open pre-qualification tender by cluster, which is vital to ensure that the procurement and implementation processes can be organised more systematically and according to the set timeline.
Meanwhile, in another Facebook post, Nanta also presented a total allocation of RM110,000 to several organisations and local committees in the Kapit area during a cheque presentation ceremony.
The assistance was channelled to support the implementation of various community programmes, social activities and local needs that directly benefit the people.

In addition, an extra allocation of RM30,000 was also presented to the Kapit District Office Rando Club.
“I hope this assistance will help facilitate the planning and implementation of programmes organised by each recipient, while also strengthening cooperation between community leaders, local committees, and the people in the Kapit area,” he said. — DayakDaily
