KUCHING, May 15: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas announced that the construction of the new Tebedu Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) Complex is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025.
In his winding-up speech in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) today, Uggah, who also serves as the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, responded to concerns raised by Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada regarding the project’s progress.
Dr Sinang had earlier expressed frustration over the delayed project, which was initially allocated RM100 million and was promised completion in 2021.
He noted that the lack of visible development and the superior quality of the neighboring ICQS complex had become a point of discomfort, emphasising the need for expedited progress.
Uggah assured that once completed, the new Tebedu ICQS Complex will significantly improve immigration and customs clearance services.
This development is expected to enhance border trade, particularly given the strategic location of the Tebedu Industrial Estate (TIE) in the region.
The project aims to boost economic activity and facilitate smoother cross-border operations between Sarawak and its neighboring regions. — DayakDaily
