KUCHING, Apr 11: The Sarawak government is expected to announce a special assistance measure to help address the rising cost of living, with details to be revealed next week following the State’s increasingly strong financial position.

“Next week, I will announce another form of assistance for the people to help address the cost of living.

“Based on the funds we have today, I believe we can implement this for the welfare of the people of Sarawak,” he said at the ’Leaders’ Dinner with Community Leaders and Chiefs’ held at the Limbang Civic Centre on Friday (Apr 10), as reported by the Sarawakku Facebook page.

On Mar 27, it was reported that the State government was conducting a study on a type of assistance to help ease the burden on the people affected by rising prices driven by global developments, particularly the conflict in the Middle East.

The matter was revealed by Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi during the Premier’s speech at the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House hosted by the Office of the Premier of Sarawak.

“In his speech, he said that the matter has been discussed with the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Ugah Embas, who is also the Second Minister of Finance.

“Further consideration is being carried out to ensure that the assistance provided truly benefits the people,” said Nanta. — DayakDaily
