KOTA KINABALU (Nov 28): Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SE) is deploying 25 mobile generator sets to all 25 tallying centres across the state to ensure the vote-counting process for the 17th Sabah election proceeds without disruption.

SE Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ir Ts Mohd Yaakob Hj Jaafar said the move is part of the utility provider’s commitment to keeping the lights on throughout one of the most crucial phases of the election.

“SE has prepared 25 mobile and portable generator units that will be stationed at all tallying centres as a mitigation measure to ensure continuous power supply,” he said in a statement.

He said ensuring a stable electricity supply during vote counting is essential, as any power interruption could delay or cast doubt on the process.

Mohd Yaakob said SE began preparing early, covering technical checks, operational readiness and standby arrangements to minimise any risk during the election period.

“We also held discussions with the Sabah Election Commission (EC) to review preparations and to brief them on the measures taken by SE to ensure that SE’s installations remain in good condition,” he said.

SE is also working with the Public Works Department (JKR) to ensure internal wiring at halls under JKR’s jurisdiction — including nomination and tallying centres — are safe and functioning properly.

As part of its heightened readiness, SE has carried out additional safety inspections, increased patrols by its auxiliary police, and activated operations rooms at its headquarters and district offices across Sabah.

A total of 500 SE personnel will be on rotation throughout polling day and the counting process.

Mohd Yaakob added that all SE operations rooms will remain open on polling and tallying days to ensure fast communication with relevant agencies.

“All planned scheduled maintenance works that require power shutdowns will also be postponed except for emergency-related shutdowns,” he said.
