MIRI (March 14): The police conducted an ‘Op Bersepadu Pencegahan Jenayah’ or integrated crime prevention operation on Thursday evening, involving 32 police personnel including five senior officers, with roadblocks and enforcement activities carried out around Miri city.
Prior to the operation, a briefing session was conducted at the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri) by the Chief of the Logistics and Technology Division, ASP Zulpaka Aidiee.
The session was attended by officers and personnel assigned to various duties including roadblocks, snap checks, vehicle patrols and inspections of entertainment centres.
According to a statement by police posted on its official Facebook page, the integrated operation began around 10pm, with roadblocks set up within the administrative areas of IPD Miri.
During the roadblocks, enforcement personnel inspected vehicles and detected various traffic offences among road users.
Among the offences recorded were driving without a valid licence, vehicle structural modifications, absence of side mirrors, modified exhausts, the use of fancy number plates and expired road tax.
“These offences contributed to an increase in the number of summonses issued during the operation,” it said.
Meanwhile, patrol units conducted snap checks and vehicle patrols in residential areas, villages and along major roads as part of the police’s omnipresence strategy aimed at preventing crime in areas under surveillance.
“The omnipresence approach is also intended to reassure the public that their neighbourhoods remain safe, peaceful and secure,” it added.
Additionally, inspections were carried out at several entertainment centres during the operation.
IPD Miri said that similar operations will continue to be conducted from time to time to curb crime and enhance police presence in public areas.
