MIRI (Sept 15): Police have arrested three men aged between 49 and 62 for driving under the influence of alcohol during an operation conducted along Jalan Miri-Bintulu from Friday night to Saturday morning.
Miri Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said the ‘Op Mabuk’ operation, involving two officers and 10 personnel from the district police headquarters’ Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, began at 11pm on Friday and concluded at 4.30am on Saturday.
“A total of 62 vehicles were inspected, and 49 summonses were issued for various offences.
“The three drivers were detained under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and were taken to the traffic police station for further action,” he said in a press statement.
Alexson said those convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol could be fined not less than RM10,000 and up to RM30,000 and up to two years in jail besides a two-year driving licence suspension.
He urged the public to refrain from driving while under the influence of alcohol, as it poses a danger to both the driver and road users.
