MIRI (March 1): Police issued a total of 22 summonses during an ‘Op Motosikal’ conducted by Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri) from 11pm on Feb 27 until 2.30am on Feb 28.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation covered several areas, including Jalan Piasau, Jalan Miri Bypass, Jalan Marina and Jalan Tanjong Lobang.
He explained that the operation was carried out following public complaints about motorcycle activities disrupting traffic flow and public order, particularly at night.
“During the operation, 17 individuals comprising 15 men and two women were inspected along with 15 motorcycles.
“Inspections found various offences, including riding without a licence, unauthorised structural modifications, modified exhausts, absence of side mirrors, no registration numbers, use of fancy registration plates and other technical offences related to vehicle modifications,” he said in a statement posted on the Miri District Police Facebook page.
Mohd Farhan advised all road users to comply with traffic regulations, ride and drive responsibly, and refrain from engaging in street gangsterism activities that may endanger themselves and other road users.
He also cautioned vehicle owners against modifying the original structure of their vehicles in ways that violate the law or produce excessive noise, which could disturb public peace.
He said the police will continue to carry out periodic and targeted operations to ensure the safety and well-being of the community are always protected.
