KUCHING, April 28: The Old Josephians’ Association (OJA) Kuching will organise the 9th edition of its Ora Et Labora Run on Oct 24, 2026 at SMK St Joseph, Kuching, with the flag-off scheduled at 6am.
The annual event continues to serve as a meaningful reunion platform for retired teachers, ex-students, and the wider Josephian community, bringing together generations in a shared spirit of fellowship, service, and support for their alma mater.
In a press statement on Monday (April 27), Deputy Premier and OJA president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the run has grown into more than just a sporting event.
“The Ora Et Labora Run is not just bringing together retired teachers, ex-students and families, but also current students of the St Joseph’s Family of Schools, namely SMK St Joseph, St Joseph’s Private School and St Joseph’s International School. Every year in October, they gather in school for this run and it has been a very successful and meaningful event,” he said.
“The Ora Et Labora Run 2025 drew more than 1,200 runners and this year, we hope to attract more than 1,500 runners to join us,” he said.
Dr Sim also emphasised that the event plays an important role in fundraising efforts to support co-curricular development across the Josephian schools.
“With all three schools coming together as a team, it is hoped that a solid network and closer bond can be forged,” he said.
During the launching ceremony, Dr Sim also presented contributions of RM20,000 each to SMK St Joseph and St Joseph’s Private School from proceeds of the previous run.
In addition, the schools will be initiating the St Joseph’s School Masterplan, aimed at upgrading facilities to support more holistic and effective learning while strengthening collaboration within the Josephian community.
Further supporting the initiative, the Class of ’77, represented by Alvin Wee and Peh Yaw Tin, contributed RM11,000 towards the fundraising effort.
Dr Sim has urged all Josephians, alumni, and corporate bodies to work together to raise RM2 million for the upgrading project.
The run will feature three categories: a 1.4km family walk, a 5km fun run, and a 10km competitive run. All finishers will receive medals, while the top 10 finishers in the 10km category will receive additional cash prizes.
Registration fees are set at RM55 for the 1.4km walk and 5km fun run, and RM65 for the 10km competitive run. Each participant will receive a running T-shirt and bib.
Entry forms are available in hard copy at Revolution Run Borneo at Green Heights Mall and during the Kuching Happy Runners Club weekly run every Wednesday at Saradise. Online registration can be made via www.malaysiarunner.com.
