KUCHING, Feb 17: More than 10,000 international travellers touched down at Malaysia’s main airports on the first day of the Chinese New Year, signalling a strong start to the holiday period and continued recovery in tourism, said Federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
In a Facebook post today, he announced that over 6,800 travellers from 30 cities arrived at KLIA Terminal 1 and 3,200 from 18 cities at Terminal 2 today, with more international arrivals expected throughout the afternoon.
The arrival programme featured traditional lion dance performances and showcases of local attire while the Visit Malaysia 2026 mascots Wira and Manja wore festive costumes, creating an experience that introduces visitors to Malaysia’s cultural heritage and hospitality from the moment they land.
He also thanked representatives from international and China-based airlines, noting that strong collaboration with these carriers is vital for regional connectivity and two-way travel.
“Malaysia is a country where Chinese New Year traditions are preserved and passed down in their richness and authenticity.
“By bringing this festive atmosphere into the airport, we hope visitors feel our respect for culture and our sincere hospitality from the very first step into Malaysia,” he said.
As Malaysia enters Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), the welcoming initiative reflects the country’s commitment to enhancing the visitor experience and showcasing Malaysia as a travel destination that respects tradition, embraces diversity, and encourages repeat visits. — DayakDaily
