KUCHING, March 27: Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak seized more than 21,000 litres of diesel and petrol from premises in Kota Samarahan and Pending in a major crackdown on the illegal storage of controlled goods.
KPDN Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin stated that in Kota Samarahan, its enforcement team confiscated an estimated 16,000 litres of diesel from a premise suspected of storing fuel without valid authorisation.
“The raid followed an initial operation by the General Operations Force (GOF), after which the case was referred to KPDN for further action under Ops 555 and Ops Jeriji,” he said in a statement today.
The seizure also included one skid tank with an estimated capacity of 20,000 litres, five IBC tanks of 1,000 litres each, a Mazda motorvan, two Motoyama pumps, and two rubber hoses.
“The diesel alone is valued at RM34,400, with total assets including equipment and vehicles estimated at RM87,560,” he disclosed.
Meanwhile, in Pending area, KPDN, together with the GOF Batu Kawa, inspected two locations suspected of storing controlled goods.
“Authorities seized 5,600 litres of diesel and 300 litres of RON95 petrol, with a combined value of RM18,273, due to storage under suspicious conditions and lack of proper authorisation,” he added.
Both cases have been filed under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. Individuals found guilty may face fines up to RM1 million or imprisonment up to three years, while companies could be fined up to RM2 million. Subsequent offenses carry stiffer penalties.
KPDN Sarawak urges the public to report suspicious activities via WhatsApp at 019-848 8000, email at [email protected], the 1-800-886-800 call centre, or the Ez ADU KPDN mobile app. — DayakDaily
